At Villa Fig Guest House is a boutique Contemporary Cape Dutch Villa designed and built by Architect Lawrence Brown in collaboration with owners Lindsay and Bruno Rolando. Since then, all Architectural alterations, enhancements and additions have been advised by Architect, Sebastian Rolando (Pr. M.Arch) while the Interior design and finishes advised by Isabelle Rolando (B.Tech in Architecture).

This eclectic villa was built incorporating reclaimed hundred year old Cape teak windows and doors from buildings in and around Cape Town. Notable pieces are the cast iron windows that grace the entry façade of the Villa which were reclaimed from the Castle of Good Hope at the time of the Gabriel Fagan restoration project in the early 1990’s.  While the cast iron columns which support the open plan design were shipped from Glasgow Scotland, known for its Victorian iron manufacturing industry and are dated 1836. The 12 matching columns were salvaged from a saw mill in Wetton, by Lindsay and Bruno in 1991. The grey marble throughout was sourced from a quarry in Northern Cape.

This uniquely conceived eclectic villa is furnished with a lifetime’s collection of crafted pieces collected by Lindsay and Bruno while they travelled Southern Africa and lived abroad in Australia and USA. South African Antiques, original African Sculptures, original mid century pieces, Persian carpets and regency furniture cohabit and produce a unique curatorial aesthetic of comfort and interest. Both Lindsay and Bruno studied Fine Art and photography and their works add interest and authenticity to the Villa.   At Villa Fig adjoins a river greenbelt in the tranquil Constantia valley. The manicured garden and courtyards have beautiful views of Table Mountain. Originally the Villa was named after the variety of fig trees from Southern Europe and North Africa that Lindsay’s father planted in the garden some 60 years ago.

The Villa has 4 king bedroom suites that sleeps 10. All the bedrooms have en suite bathrooms, 3 with full bathroom and one with shower. Guest bathroom downstairs. Fibre internet throughout and smart TV in every room. 100% cotton sheets. There is an open plan entrance lounge and dining room with direct access to a full kitchen and scullery. A covered veranda with outdoor lounge and dining on the ground floor.  There is an open plan lounge / library upstairs which leads to a veranda with mountain views. The villa has a walled pool shaded by palm trees, there is off street parking for 6 cars. There is also an additional 2 bedroom ground floor apartment that sleeps an additional 4 guests that can be included on request.

Bruno provided us with an excellent retreat in which to relax and use as our base in Cape Town. Very comfortable room and brilliant breakfast. We will recommend to friends and return on our next trip to SA.
